Custom Software - The Process
This section outlines the stages that we
go through with clients to ensure they get the
ideal software for their business.
a. Initial Discussion (free of charge and without obligation)
Discuss scope:-
- How does the client's business operate. What software functions are required?
- Number of users and user-proficiency.
- Size and type of existing data to be prepared for transfer.
- Infrastructure. Server? PC suitability?
Timeframe:-
- How urgent is it for client to implement new program?
- How long will it take to prepare existing data for transfer?
- How much of the data is constantly changing and can only be
prepared at the moment of switch over?
- When would it be most convenient to perform the switch over? (Often
this is a weekend)

b. Proposal & Quote (free of charge and without obligation)
A detailed proposal and quote is then prepared. It describes what the program
will do. This acts as the guide for the developer and a checklist
for the client. Alternative approaches and prices are illustrated,
which could include a staged development process which spreads payment
over several stages.
If you decide to not take up the proposal, there is no charge
and you may keep the proposal. All that we ask is that, if you
found the initial consultation a useful exercise, that you
recommend it to your acquaintances.

c. Development and Training (client chooses Working Data)
Working Data then develop the program at their own premises.
There is often contact with the client through this period
to iron out details, such as appearance, functionality
and preferences.
If staff members need training, its best to do it before the
switchover so they can hit the ground running. Training is
not usually required but we are more than happy to oblige.

d. Implementation (the software is installed)
This is the stage where your custom software is loaded on to your
computers and your existing data is transferred in to it. This
usually happens over a weekend to reduce downtime.

e. Post Implementation Support (early issues are ironed out)
It is normal after changing software for it to take a while for
confidence to come with the new program. Also, in the immediate
few days after the now program goes live, any errors in the program's
structure, bugs, should surface. Working Data will be on hand to
remedy these and get you back to work.

With Working Data software, you are not tied-in. There is no
monthly or annual fees or licences. You can take up a support
contract with Working Data, where for a monthly fee, you will
get preferential rates according to the Support Plan Table.
Alternatively, you can just contact us when you want improvements

Custom Software − An Example Quote
Custom software is made specifically for your business.
Therefore, we can not give you your specific quote until
after the initial, absolutely free consultation. However,
we would like to give you an insight into the breakdown of
time and cost within a quote, and have prepared an
Example Quote based on a simple system.
